BRINGING THE NFL TO YOU!

THE NFL EXPERIENCECan’t afford $1,200 for a Super Bowl ticket? How about $20 for a kid’s ticket and $25 for an adult’s to the NFL Experience? Attendees can play football, see NFL players close-up, get autographs, hear stories and check out more than 75 games and attractions.

The whole family should go dressed for a workout, too. Not only will you have a lot of ground to cover in more than 850,000 square feet at the Dallas Convention Center, we bet adults won’t be able to resist testing their skills and throwing a ball or two.

Tips:

- Go this weekend before out-of-town fans swarm the joint. Sure, that means seeing a greater proportion of Dallas Cowboys players in relation to other teams, but for Cowboys fans, that’s a plus, isn’t it?
- Consider buying an official program for $20, identical to the ones that’ll be handed out at the Super Bowl. It’s a great souvenir and a low-cost taste of being at the big game. If you’re a fan of one of the Super Bowl teams, you can get official items with the Super Bowl logo there, too.

- Call 1-888-635-2273 for a schedule of appearances, which are usually not firm until 24 hours in advance. Buy tickets online to help avoid lines.

- Spaces can go quickly for clinics, and you must sign up in person for the day you’re there. So hurry to the Stadium area in Hall E to register younger kids for playing clinics. High schoolers and adults can head to the NFL Locker Room in Hall C for Coaches Chats and Football 101 Clinics led by NFL players.

- The new NFL merchandise app will be available on-site for the iPhone, Droid and BlackBerry. You can download it for free, pull down a menu and shop at the 30,000-square-foot store without being physically in it. You pick up your purchases on the way out. Want to save money while giving back? Take used football equipment to the Febreze Game Day Freshness Equipment Drive at the Febreze Mobile Home in the NFL Sponsor Zone. It will go to a North Texas youth league, and you’ll receive a 15 percent discount to the on-site shop.

- Make sure the camera batteries are charged. You are going to have lots of photo opportunities

Over the past century, few entertainers have achieved the legendary status of William H. Cosby Jr. His successes span five decades and virtually all media, remarkable accomplishments for a kid who emerged from humble beginnings in a Philly project.

In the 1960s, his stand-up act was a coast-to-coast sensation, spawning a string of hilarious, best-selling comedy albums, which went on to win eight Gold Records, five Platinum records and five Grammy Awards. His role on TV’s I Spy made him the first African-American to co-star in a dramatic series, breaking television’s racial barrier and winning three Emmy Awards. In the 1980s, he again rocked the television world with the The Cosby Show, a gentle, whimsical and hugely successful series that single-handedly revived the family sitcom (and rescued NBC).

With hit movies like Uptown Saturday Night and best-selling books like Fatherhood, Bill Cosby is quite simply a national treasure with the unique ability to touch people’s hearts.

“Remembering Tom Landry: The Personal Collection,” honoring the life of the legendary Dallas Cowboys coach (he was with the team from 1960 to 1988), was a big hit during the State Fair, with more than 120,000 visitors. It recently re-opened at the Hall of State in Fair Park for a run through Feb. 6, and will be open both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Alicia Landry, the coach’s widow (he died in 2000), provided the items for the show. “I was extremely touched as I watched people go through the exhibit,” she says. “Most took time to look at every part of the collection, not just the Cowboy years. I wanted them to know Tommy, the man, whose deep personal faith guided his life, as well as Coach Landry.” The show, presented by the Dallas Historical Society and sponsored by Oncor, will include includes Landry’s trademark fedora, game balls and trophies, and rarely seen family photos. It covers Landry’s time as an undergrad and star of the gridiron at the University of Texas, his years as a player and coach with the New York Giants, the Cowboys years, and his retirement and legacy as a man of charm, charisma and dead-on football prowess.
